Where Are All the People Moving to the Reno Area Coming From?
Reno, known as “The Biggest Little City in the World'“, is famous for its events, casinos and tourism. People may also love to visit The Great Reno Balloon Race or one of the city’s many performing arts theaters. But recently, thousands of people have decided to relocate and permanently make Reno their new home. Where are all these newcomers originally from? And why are they deciding to move?
Over 85,000 people moved to Reno from 2013 to 2017, which is 18% of the total population. Not surprisingly, most come from Nevada’s neighboring state of California, but a great number also come from some unexpected places. According to the National Association of Realtors, Las Vegas is at the top of the list with about 3,400 people who moved and relocated to the Reno area. Just under 1,000 came from the nearby capital city of Carson City, Nevada. And Seattle, about 700 miles away, brought around 600 new people to the city.
From the stunning scenery to the exciting night life, Reno has much to offer and is growing constantly. The city made Forbes list as #11 Best Places for Business and Careers, #41 in Cost of Doing Business, #2 in Job Growth, and #105 in Education.
Reno also offers a very reasonable housing market. The city provides of a number of different types of housing when shopping for a home, from the busy inner-city to the outskirts of town with plenty of open land. The median home value in the Reno area for 2019 is about $385,000, but there are options for less than $300,00 in the metro area.
